Bypass to be a Reality Soon.
As the dream of constructing a bypass here from Mevaram to Kavanadu is finally going to be a reality, the district administration and the people's representatives are celebrating the final phase of the project in a grand manner. The reception committee has decided to ensure the participation of the people and political leaders at the function to be held as part of beginning the final phase of construction work at Altharamoodu Junction in Kavanadu at 9.30 am on April 10.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari would inaugurate the construction work and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy would preside over the function. Apart from them, PWD minister V K Ebrahim Kunju, Labour Minister Shibu Baby John, MLAs, MPS and other people's representatives would attend the function, N K Premachandran MP said. Premachandran is also the chairman of the reception committee.
As the state has many examples of unscientific construction of traffic junctions, Premachandran said that the junction at Kavanadu where the bypass meets the National Highway should be constructed with care.
He said that expert study should be done if needed for its construction. Mayor Honey Benjamin said that all efforts would be made to ensure the presence of maximum number of people at the function.
'Those who have parted their land for the infrastructure project would be invited specially and transport arrangements would be made to take the people to the venue,' District Collector A Kousigan said. It was in the second week of February that the project deal was signed and the government had included it in its list of mega projects. The project is being done on a cost-sharing basis between the State and Centre at 50:50 at a cost of Rs. 352 crore. The project conceived in 1975 would help motorists to take the NH 66 by skipping the congested city road.
