BRO to Complete Strategic Arunachal Road by March 2026.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) aims to complete the double-laning of a strategically important road in Arunachal Pradesh by March 2026. According to S.C. Looniya, Chief Engineer of BRO's Project Brahmank, the 32-km Pene-Tato stretch of the Aalo-Mechuka road is on track for completion, despite some delays.
Looniya said the project's delay was caused by land acquisition issues. He explained that the BRO is focused on completing the road's formation-cutting to ensure uninterrupted travel for commuters. "The stretch will be completed with all parameters," he said, "so that people get a safe, secure, satisfactory-level road connectivity."
Other Key Projects
Looniya also provided updates on other road and infrastructure projects in the region:
Tato-Mechuka Stretch: The construction of 14 bridges along this stretch has been awarded, and work is in various stages of completion.
Yarlung-Trijunction Road: The construction of this 12-km road, which includes a 140-foot steel modular bridge, has started and is expected to be finished within two years.
Yarlung-Lamang Road: This 16-km road has already been completed.
Lamang-Lola Road: The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this 14-km road is currently being prepared.
Migging-Tuting Road: This road is also nearing completion, with only 15 km of formation-cutting remaining. Surfacing work is planned for this year, and if the weather permits, the entire project will be finished by March 2026.
These road upgrades, which fall under the National Highway Single Lane (NHSL) program, are intended to provide vital connectivity for military forces stationed in the forward areas of Arunachal Pradesh.
Looniya also mentioned that the BRO is open to taking over the maintenance of NH-13, Akajan-Likabali-Bam road, which would benefit BRO personnel stationed in the area. This road, originally built by the BRO in the 1960s, was handed over to the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) in 2015 for double-laning. However, several sections are currently in poor condition, prompting frustration from locals.
