VisionSpring plans expansion
Hyderabad: VisionSpring (India), the subsidiary of a New York-based International NGO, is planning to expand its programme to three or four more districts in Andhra Pradesh within the next two years.
VisionSpring’s on-going programme is to provide access to eye care services in rural India and its vision is to provide for a dignified future.
As per the current plans, the company aims to expand the programme to Adilabad, Kurnool, Warangal and Krishna Districts in the next two years.
It currently offers its services in Mahaboobnagar, East and West Godavari, Prakasam and Nalgonda Districts in the State and is also working in five other States apart from Andhra Pradesh.
Training scheme
As per the sources, the company trains local community members in rural areas as Vision Entrepreneurs for conducting eye health awareness campaigns. They are provided with a kit that contains eye charts for performing pre-screening of vision problems.
Also, the people in need of diagnosis and treatment are referred to an eye hospital or clinics or else the vision entrepreneurs provide ready-mage reading glasses that cost around Rs 170 a pair.
VisionSpring is also in talks with a couple of organisations to expand its programme to other parts of the country.
