PVR INOX Launches First Dine-In Cinema in Bengaluru, Expands Beyond Box Office.
In a bid to diversify its revenue streams beyond traditional ticket sales, PVR INOX has launched its first dine-in cinema experience in Bengaluru, marking a strategic shift toward positioning cinemas as premium lifestyle destinations.
Aamer Bijli, Lead Specialist – Innovation, Film Marketing and Digital Programming at PVR INOX, said the new format aims to transform cinemas into a “third space” — a social environment beyond home and work. “With the dine-in cinema, we aim to increase F&B ARPU, extend dwell time, and reposition cinemas as lifestyle destinations,” Bijli said.
The move underscores the growing significance of food and beverage (F&B) in the company’s revenue mix. According to PVR INOX’s annual report, while movie ticket revenue declined to ₹2,942.4 crore in FY25 from ₹3,258.2 crore in FY24, F&B revenue held strong at ₹1,733.5 crore. In FY24, F&B revenue grew by 21% to ₹1,958.4 crore, outpacing the 19% growth in ticketing revenue.
Unlike traditional cinemas, the new dine-in format focuses on a “dine-first” approach. “We’re not even selling tickets—we’re selling tables,” Bijli explained. “Instead of one person buying a ticket, customers can book a table where multiple people can come in and enjoy.”
The Bengaluru dine-in cinema is part of a broader strategy by PVR INOX to reinvent the moviegoing experience and tap into evolving consumer preferences for premium, experience-led entertainment.
