Mizoram CM announces Kaladan project to be operational by 2027.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced recently that the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP), a key bilateral initiative with Myanmar, is on track for completion by 2027. Speaking at the 'Tlanglut Kut' festival of the Bawm tribe in Lunglei district, the chief minister said he received the update from executing company officials.

The KMMTTP aims to connect southern Mizoram to the Bay of Bengal, providing the landlocked state with a crucial sea route via Myanmar. Once operational, the project will first link Kolkata to Sittwe port in Myanmar by sea, then utilize the Kaladan river to Paletwa, and finally, connect to the India-Myanmar border via a 110-km road.

Lalduhoma also highlighted the Centre's efforts to extend the railway line to Hmawngbuchhuah on the Mizoram-Myanmar border. He emphasized that these projects will "witness speedy development" in southern Mizoram. The announcement follows the recent inauguration of the Bairabi-Sairang railway line by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which links the state capital Aizawl to the rest of the country.

While the road construction on the Mizoram side has been completed, its commissioning is pending due to issues including compensation, according to PWD officials.
