Textile City: Authorities resolves water issues
Karachi: The issue of supply of water for Pakistan Textile City project through a 48-inch dia pipeline, which suffered stalemate for quite some time for want of right of way for laying of pipeline, was sorted out in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Sindh Finance Minister Dewan Mohammed Yousuf Farooqui here on Friday.
The meeting was attended by Managing Director KWSB, Ghulam Arif Khan, Chief Engineer KWSB Mashkoorul Hasnain, Misbahuddin Farid, Project Manager KWSB, Chairman PQA Syed Afzal, KM Yousuf, Director (P&D) PQA, Mir Afsar Din Talpur, DG (P&D) PQA, Zaheer Hussain of Pakistan Textile City and Shimail Ahmed from PEC.
The matter was sorted out after KWSB proposed few options for laying of pipeline and it was decided that one of these options would be finalised in a meeting between PQA and KWSB on Monday.
The meeting was informed that detailed survey for the Pipeline Alignment outside PQA boundary, geotechnical investigation along pipeline alignment, soil resistivity have been completed and pipeline material has been recommended to be glass reinforced plastic (GRP) pipe. It was pointed out that the design of pipeline system upto PQA boundary be completed while contract documents were under finalisation.
The meeting was informed that design phase is still incomplete after a delay of six months - the reason being the unresolved issue of pipeline alignment inside PQA boundary.
It was informed that delay has already resulted in an increase in the project cost over PC-1 cost. Dewan Yousuf directed that all related issues be expeditiously resolved so that work on this ambitious project which is going to play a key role in the export sector of Pakistan is speedily completed to attain the desired objectives.
