Sri Lanka Center established in Shanghai

Colombo: As part of a greater strategy to attract investments from China, one of the fastest growing economies in Asia, the Board of Investment has taken the lead in the establishment of a Sri Lanka Center in Shanghai.

This project, which was a brainchild of Minister of Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion, Dr Sarath Amunugama, will encourage promoting investment at the source by showcasing many of the products and services available in Sri Lanka. Hence Chinese investors will be able to have a very clear idea of Sri Lanka’s potential for manufacturing high quality products of international standard.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the People’s Republic of China, Karunathilaka Amunugama, opened the Center.

The Center is located in the Shanghai Mart, which is a prestigious property built and owned by the Shin Kwan Group, a leading Singapore based conglomerate headed and owned by the construction magnate S.P. Tao, who built and owns Colombo’s World Trade Center and the Havelock City.

Minister Amunugama formally appointed Lee Kang Ho, the Chief representative of the Shin Kwan Group in Shanghai as the Honorary Representative of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka in Shanghai.

The Sri Lanka Centre features a wide range of products made in Sri Lanka including manufactured and value added goods such as tea, beauty care products, food products, apparel, ceramics and gems and jewellery.

The Centre therefore has a wide selection of literature on investment and industries in the Chinese language and in English. Among the companies represented and Sri Lankan brand names are Nature’s Beauty, Mackwoods, Dilmah, Stassens International, Eswaran Brothers and Ceylon Biscuits (Munchee).
