RUB at Mauli Jagran to be inaugurated by next month.

The formal inauguration of the road under bridge (RUB) at Mauli Jagran, which connects Hallomajra to Industrial Area in Panchkula, is expected to take place next month. Although the RUB was being used by commuters for the past few weeks, the UT Engineering Department has completed the work only now.

The RUB was earlier expected to be completed by May, but the work of installation of streetlights and carpeting of some patches took time.

Chief Engineer S K Chaddha said, “The work has now been completed. We have moved a request for inauguration of the RUB. Next month, it will formally be inaugurated.” A proposal for construction of two RUBs in the city had been doing the rounds for several years. After changes in the design, the RUB at Mauli Jagran was finally approved. Work was started two years ago.

The RUB provides an alternative route to Panchkula from south-eastern parts of Chandigarh and the airport, avoiding the rush between Tribune Chowk and the Transport lightpoint, and further on the Madhya Marg.

Besides the railway crossing at Mauli Jagran, the narrow road was a deterrent for commuters. Now the approach road from Chandigarh to the RUB has been six-laned. The RUB has been constructed in a manner that there is a separate lane for non-motorised transport. The incline for such vehicles is lesser so that the effort required to drive is reduced.

The proposal for construction of a similar RUB at the Manimajra railway crossing is still hanging fire. Due to the presence of several underground cables, the public health wing had termed the proposal unfeasible at the identified location. A new site is yet to be finalised.
