Rs. 100 Cr for Water Projects in Greater Hyderabad.
For implementation of various drinking water projects in Greater Hyderabad limits, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has agreed to release Rs. 100 crore.
Reviewing the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) activities at Secretariat recently, the Chief Minister directed the HMWS&SB officials to take steps and prepare an action plan to meet the drinking water needs of the people living in Hyderabad for future.
He directed the HMWS&SB to explore and examine proposal to draw water from Srisailam. He instructed the Water Board to prepare proposals for laying 160 km of ring main along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) growth corridor and radial mains to connect to the water sources for tapping water from water reservoir to another.
The present population of Hyderabad is around one crore and one lakh floating population come to city for various works on a daily basis. On an average every year, the population is increasing by around 10 lakh. Besides, the prestigious Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) and large industries will be coming up in and around Greater Hyderabad and keeping this in view, the chief minister directed the HMWS&SB officials to prepare detailed plans to meet the drinking needs of the people as well as industries that are going to come up in Hyderabad.
To meet the drinking needs of the city, it requires as many as 35 TMC of water but the present existing water sources could supply about 20 TMC of water to the city which include Krishna (11 TMC), Singur (7 TMC), Osmansagar and Himayatsagar about 2 TMC of water.
To meet the deficit, the chief minister directed the Water Board officials to speed up the Phase-1 of Godavari drinking water project and Phase-III of Krishna drinking water supply scheme.
