L&T to continue medical equipment biz

Mumbai: Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro has decided to continue with the operations of its Mysore-based Medical Equipment & Systems (MED) business.

Earlier, the company had said it was exiting from the medical equipment business as it was not part of its core activity. Further, at the annual general body meeting, Mr A.M. Naik, Chairman, said the medical equipment business was not fetching right valuations.

Now, announcing the decision to continue, Mr R.N. Mukhija, President–Operations, said: “In view of the overwhelming demand from our customers, the management has decided to retain the medical equipment business. L&T will continue to bring in suitable products to provide better health care. L&T wishes to reaffirm its commitment for the growth of its business.”

L&T has been a provider of a wide range of medical equipment with a distribution network across the country.

In order to cater to the growing market needs, MED is setting up a modern manufacturing facility on a recently acquired site close to its unit in Mysore.

The groundbreaking ceremony was performed on October 10. The facility is expected to be ready by the early part of the next financial year.

The new facility will enhance the capability for managing the growth of the business with its recently introduced range of advanced multi-parameter monitors, wireless central nursing stations and ultrasound colour dopplers.

The MED business continues streamlining its various business processes such as sales and marketing, supply chain and service management as a continuous endeavour for improved operational efficiencies and value creation.

It is now geared up to provide even better online support to its customers through a world-class customer interaction centre.
