Lanka: 600 families to benefit from rural electrification

Colombo: The Power and Energy Ministry has provided electricity to over 81 per cent of the population, Power and Energy Ministry source said. He said a crash programme is under way to provide electricity to the rest soon.

The Ministry launched 7,400 rural electrification schemes last year and 4,200 have already been vested in the people.

Power and Energy Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne will also inaugurate Heenberanduwa, Banagoda and Kemapanawatta rural electrification schemes on May 30 benefiting over 600 families in the Pelmadulla electorate.

Small and Medium Scale entrepreneurs will benefit from these projects for which Rs. 30 million has been provided by the Asian Development Bank.
