"Kolkata Metro Installs Solar Power Plants at Multiple Stations"

Kolkata Metro has initiated the installation of solar power plants at several stations as part of its efforts to shift towards renewable energy, officials announced on Tuesday. On the Blue Line, solar plants with a capacity of 763 kWp have been set up at stations including Noapara, Dum Dum, Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, and Kavi Subhash, as well as at the Belgachia tunnel ramp.

Additionally, solar panels have been installed at the Metro's Tapan Sinha Memorial Hospital.

In the East-West Corridor, solar plants with a capacity of 1,519 kWp are operational at Salt Lake Sector V, Central Park stations, and the Central Park Depot. On the Purple Line, a 1,400 kWp plant has been installed at the Joka carshed, while a 500 kWp plant is now functional at the new carshed on the Orange Line at Kavi Subhash.

These solar projects have been executed through public-private partnerships, according to an official statement. Currently, Kolkata Metro has a total installed solar capacity of 4,197 kWp. The installation of an additional 360 kWp capacity is underway at various buildings in Belgachia and Tollygunge, with the projects expected to be operational by the end of the month.
