KESC restarts operation at Korangi Thermal Power Plant
Karachi: The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has taken over commercial operations of the first phase at Korangi Thermal Power Plant (KTPP), a press statement issued by the company said.
Announcing immediate generation from the plant, the company has added 96 mw to Karachi's power grit which would increase to the technical capacity of 220 mw as the plant was made fully operational, it said.
It said the addition was the latest in the initiative by KESC to ensure self-reliance in meeting the city's power needs awning to increase capacity which can help to minimise power shortages in the city.
The addition of Korangi Thermal follows the addition of a 50 mw. Rental power earlier this month, which was expected to be at full capacity by December, the statement added.
Naveed Ismail, CEO, KESC, said that taking long-term steps towards containing load shedding was an immediate priority. Recognising the supply gap in the city's electricity needs, the company had already identified the need for and invested in new rental power.
The addition of KTPP to the city's power grid would further bridge the gap between demand and supply in Karachi for the longer term.
