Karnataka showcases tourism projects worth Rs. 700 crore.
Host Karnataka showcased Rs. 700-crore worth of tourism related investment potential at the 38th edition of Pacific Asia Travel Association Travel Mart (PATA).
Led by Karnataka Tourism and Industries Minister RV Deshpande, Karnataka Tourism Department recently invited private participation for developing a 'Disneyland' park at a cost of Rs. 100 crore and ‘Lego’ theme parks at a cost of Rs. 50 crore near Bengaluru.
The government has decided to develop Bengaluru as a tourist destination by setting up amusement/theme parks, promoting adventure sports and relating high-end accommodation through various public private partnership framework on lines of international parks.
The tourism department has also invited operators for development of cruise dinner at Halasuru (Ulsoor) lake in Bengaluru at a cost of Rs. 40 crore. The lake is located in the north-eastern fringe of the city close to MG Road.
A proposal to build a 'Snow Park' in Bengaluru was also showcased at the meet. The project is planned on a five acre land which will have built up area of 20,000 sq feet for skiing and snow boarding will also have a family entertainment area of 35,000 sq feet along with a food court.
The department has also invited investments worth Rs. 80 crore in building cable car at four locations in the State – Chamundi Hills in Mysuru, Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapur, Kemmannungundi in Chikkamagalur and Madhugiri fort in Tumkur district.
The projects to come up in different parts of the State are: Cruise tourism with a budget of Rs. 120 crore. Ports to be utilised are Karwar, Belekeri, Tadri, Honnavar, Bhatkal, Kundapur, Hangarkatta, Malpe Padubidri, Old and New Mangalore.
Development of tourism-related infrastructure at Manapalla Lake in Udupi at the cost of Rs. 14 crore and near Malaprabha dam in Belagavi at Rs. 13 crore are also on the cards. Another proposal is for Alamatti dam in Bagalkot at Rs. 120 crore.
Development of theme park and related activities near Bhadra Dam in Chickmagalur with a budget of Rs. 86 crore and creating tourism-related infrastructure at Hidkal dam in Belagavi are also proposed.
