It's final: State govt. to build ROBs, Rlys. to share cost.
Bringing to an end the dispute over who should construct Rail Overbridges (ROB) in the city and the State, the Central government has said the responsibility rests with the State government, and not the Railways. The latter will, however, share a part of the expenditure on construction.
To implement the new system, a tripartite agreement has been signed between the State government, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) and the Ministry of Railways. Under the agreement, 57 new ROBs will be constructed in Mumbai and other parts of the State.
Indicating that this arrangement will be in force in the near future, the Railways Ministry has shared locations for the proposed ROBs with the State government. In a letter, the ministry asked the State government to nominate an agency to construct the ROBs at the earliest.
