H&R Johnson proposes capacity expansion

Mumbai: H&R Johnson, the country’s leading tile manufacturer, has decided to raise production capacity at its Rajkot unit by 36 per cent at an investment of Rs 50 crore.

This will increase the production capacity to 30,000 square metres per day (SMPD) from the existing 22,000 SMPD.

The H&R Johnson is running its Rajkot joint venture under the company’s name Antique Granito Pvt Ltd.

The capacity of this plant is being increased by adding one more kiln to the existing 3 kilns.

The project is expected to be commissioned by December, 2008. This expansion is the result of increase in demand for H & R Johnson's vitrified tiles under the brand Marbonite. Marbonite is the leader of vitrified tiles category in India and is growing at a fast pace.

H&R Johnson had signed a 50:50 joint venture with Antique Granito Limited in May, 2005.
Ever since the plant has been continuously expanding the capacity to cater to the growing demand.

The overall investment in setting up the capacity has been over Rs 200 crore.
