Central Railway lists projects worth Rs. 400 crore to strengthen system.
Central Railway authorities recently sent out a list of works, totaling more than Rs. 400 crore, to the railway board, the final sanctioning body, to add muscle to the over-burdened and aging transportation network. The list of works was approved by CR general manager SK Sood after he chaired the Works Programme Meeting at CST recently.
Among the important works is the Rs. 71-crore plan to make all long-distance platforms of CST terminus capable of running longer 24 coach trains. This would mean that passengers would get more seats on trains that will leave CST.
Another project, worth about Rs. 125 crore, involves electrification of the Jasal-JNPT Port line and the Panvel-Pen-Thal line which will allow CR to save on diesel bills and also speed up freight transportation.
