Cisco to set up start-up incubator in IoT domain at Kerala institute.

Global IT networking major Cisco will set up an incubator for start-ups in the Internet of Things (IoT) domain at the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) here.

Shrikant Sinha, CEO, Nasscom Foundation, a partner in the endeavour, and Paul Antony, Chief Secretary, signed a memorandum of understanding to this effect in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Friday.

The two-day Huddle Kerala conclave, one of Asia’s largest start-up ecosystem congregations, was inaugurated by Vijayan. Huddle Kerala is organised by the Kerala Start-up Mission in association with Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and IAMAI Startup Foundation.

Yet another MoU signed on Friday envisions the setting up of a Cisco Networking Academy programme in Kerala through the ICT Academy of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.

Harish Krishnan, Managing Director, Public Affairs and Strategic Engagements, Cisco India and SAARC, and M Sivasankar, IT Secretary, Government of Kerala, signed the documents.

Focus on innovations

Earlier, inaugurating Huddle Kerala, the Chief Minister said that unlike other States, Kerala has built a model that identifies, nurtures and promotes talented innovations within the State.

It was the first to come out with a start-up policy. In 2017, it issued the second policy document, which specifically identified the interventions required to successfully develop new ventures in the State.

Currently, there are more than 1,000 start-ups registered under the Start-up Mission, and more than two lakh sq ft of incubation space is available for start-ups, the Chief Minister noted.
