Cyberpark to have incubation centre.

An incubation centre with all modern training facilities will be set up at the Government Cyberpark in Kozhikode for developing advanced mobile applications, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

Opening ‘Sahya’, the first IT building of the Cyberpark, in the city on Monday, Mr. Vijayan said the IT incubator would become a reality with the support of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IMAI). A dedicated space of 10,000 sq.ft. will be set apart at the Cyberpark to host the incubator, he added.

Mr. Vijayan said the new facility planned by the government would definitely bring a change in Kerala’s IT sector. “Technical guidance and training to develop the centre will be provided directly by the IMAI, which will also take this park to global level,” he said.

The Chief Minister also announced the plan of the State government to set up public Wi-FI hotspots in all IT parks in the State as part of improving the reach of internet services. Kozhikode Cyberpark would be the first to get the facility shortly, he added.

Mr. Vijayan said two more IT parks would come up in the Malabar region covering Kasaragod and Kannur districts. He pointed out that the State could develop around 17 lakh sq.ft. space for IT within a short span and it would reach the government’s target of one lakh sq.ft within the next five years in Kerala.

“The ambitious Rs.1,000 crore K-Fon project that aims at providing internet coverage to all is expected to be completed in 18 months, connecting the whole State with optical fibre cable,” he said adding that it would help the government set up at least 1,000 public Wi-Fi hotspots every year. IT Secretary M. Sivasankar, District Collector U.V. Jose and Cyberpark Chief Executive Officer Hrishikesh Nair were present.
