Diwaniya Airport in Iraq to be developed by Kuwaiti firm.

Kuwait's Al-Nasriyah Company has been awarded a contract by Iraqi National Investment Commission (NIC) to build a new airport in Diwaniya governorate, Iraq. The USD 1.35 billion airport will be operated by the company under a 45 year contract, according to Iraq Business News.

The airport will cover an area of about 17,500 square meters with additional area allotted for expansions in the future, the Governor of Diwaniya, Ammar Al-Madani was quoted as saying in the report.

The plan includes developing a civilian airport, a free area and a major commercial area. The commercial area will primarily be used for transferring cargo, added the report.

The aviation sector project will be implemented over five years in three stages and aims to create 8,000 jobs for locals and attract investment in the region.
