Qatar Shell awards contract to Kentz for Pearl GTL facilities.
SNC- Lavalin announced that Qatar Kentz, a member of the group, has been awarded a four- year multi-million-dollar call-off contract by Qatar Shell for its Pearl Gas-To-Liquids (GTL) onshore and offshore facilities in Qatar.
With a possibility of a two year extension, the EPCM contract covers work and services related to plant changes, minor base and medium projects. This will include project management, engineering and specialist studies, procurement and logistics, construction and commissioning management, and the execution of construction works.
Located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Pearl GTL is the world's largest source of GTL products, capable of producing 140,000 barrels of GTL products each day. The plant also produces 120,000 barrels per day of natural gas liquids and ethane.
The Pearl GTL project was developed in two phases after major construction was completed at the end of 2010. The first phase started up in early 2011 and exported the first commercial shipment of gasoil in June 2011. Phase 2 of the plant started up in early November 2011 by bringing in sour gas from offshore wells. The whole plant ramped up to full production towards the end of 2012. Pearl GTL now runs some of the largest gas processing trains in the world and is doing so safely and reliably.
The project award follows the acquisition of Kentz by SNC-Lavalin on August 22, 2014 and seeks to enhance local development in Qatar.
