Tecnimont to begin construction of fertilizer factory in Egypt.
Italian company Tecnimont is set to start the construction of the fertilizer factory KIMA2 located in Aswan, according to a report in Daily News Egypt. This factory will produce ammonia and urea free fertilizers.
Egyptian Chemical Industries Company (KIMA) had awarded Tecnimont the contract for implementing the fertilizers project as early as 2011. However, they received the project land only in September and the construction will begin after the arrival of the equipment in December.
Production is expected to start by early 2018 with a total investment of USD 592 million. This project is expected to produce 1,200 tons of ammonia and 1,530 tons of urea per day.
Currently, Tecnimont and KIMA are working on a rehabilitation project to verify facilities using natural gas, added the report. This includes the development of a nitric acid and a nitrogen production department and sub department, with investments totaling approximately USD138 million. It is scheduled to complete within three years, in parallel to the work on the fertilizer factory.
