Bahrain's main hospital receiving $39.5mn upgrade.

Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC), Bahrain's main hospital, is undergoing a $39.5mn (BHD15mn) upgrade.

The work on the hospital involves the construction of a $14.9mn multi-storey car park, a $15.9mn power station, a $10.6mn outpatient clinic and a $100,000 expansion of the accident and emergency department.

'We are waiting for a site study report on the parking facility at SMC, which is expected to be submitted by early 2015,' Health Minister Sadiq Al Shehabi told Gulf Daily News.

'This project aims to ease parking concerns of patients and visitors and will reduce the current crisis to a good extent.

'The power station will be equipped to support the present and future needs of SMC. It is expected to be completed by end of 2015.
