STFA among bidders to build Duqm fishery harbour.

SFTA says it is awaiting news on the outcome of its bid to build one of Oman's largest fishery harbours at Duqm in Oman's Wusta Governorate.

The Turkish contractor was among at least a dozen firms vying for the work when the tender closed in April of last year.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is overseeing the implementation of the Duqm facility, which is expected to become operational in 2016. Originally intended to be located north of Duqm Port, it will now come up at a site south of the seaport.

STFA project manager Ediz Dundar told CW: 'We are still waiting to hear back from the Ministry on that project but as we are a marine specilist company we are very keen to get involved in projects like this.'

The firm will hope to leverage its local marine experience gained from working on similar fishery harbour projects in the Sultanate. It has currently reached the halfway stage of construction to build a facility in the south-western city of Salalah and is soon to mobilise on a project in Mussanah, some 90km from Muscat.
