Punjab to procure 4 million ton wheat
Lahore: Punjab government will purchase 4 million ton wheat during wheat procurement campaign, 2009. Senior Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Zulfiqar Al Khan Khosa said this while presiding over a high level meeting of Cabinet Committee constituted for wheat procurement, here on Sunday, in which production of wheat and various aspects of procurement campaign were reviewed in detail.
The advisor said that all measures will be adopted to ensure wheat procurement campaign transparent so that farmers should not face any difficulty.
Provincial Minister for Food Nadeem Kamran, Secretary Food, Secretary Agriculture, heads of other departments, Provincial Assembly members as well as Chairman Flour Mills Association Asim Raza and Vice Chairman Flour Mills Association Bilal Aslam Sufi were also present on the occasion. The meeting was informed that a bumper wheat crop is accepted in the Province this year and Provincial government will purchase 40 lakh ton wheat PASSCO, 15 lakh ton wheat and private sector will purchase two to 2.5 million ton wheat.
Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa said that wheat will be purchased from the farmers at the rate of Rs.950 per 40 kg as a result of which due return will be ensured to the cultivators. He said that purchase process will continue till the time farmers will continue to bring their wheat at sale points.
He said that maximum facilities would be ensured to the farmer who will bring their wheat at procurement centers. He further said it will be ensured that farmers should not feel any difficulty during selling their where at procurement centers.
